Our pets can’t tell us when they’re hurting, and many instinctively hide signs of pain. That’s why it’s important to recognise the subtle changes that could indicate something isn’t right.
Common signs of pain include limping, difficulty jumping or climbing stairs, reluctance to exercise, changes in appetite, excessive licking of one area, hiding away, or becoming unusually quiet or irritable. Even small changes in your pet’s behaviour can be an important clue that they’re uncomfortable.
While it’s easy to assume these changes are simply part of getting older, pain is never something your pet should have to live with. Many painful conditions, such as arthritis, dental disease, injuries, or infections, can be treated or managed successfully, especially when diagnosed early.
If you’ve noticed your pet behaving differently, it’s always worth having them checked by a vet. At Ardsley Vets, we’re here to help identify the cause of your pet’s discomfort and work with you to keep them happy, healthy, and pain-free.
